Who runs the darkroom?

Hello! My name is Emily Rose Parris. I'm an artist & arts educator based in Kent. I first dipped my toes in the water while studying at UCA Canterbury for a National Diploma in Arts & Design in 2009-2011 ~ that's where the magic started! I then continued this love for all things analogue by studying at Kingston University, graduating in 2014 with a BA (hons) in Photography. Like many other art & design graduates, I found myself without a local darkroom to continue my practice ~ so with the help of family, friends and volunteers I built one!

What is The Darkroom at Beach Creative?

The Darkroom at Beach Creative is a black & white community darkroom and workshop space based inside Beach Creative CIC. Starting from humble beginnings & with the wonderful support from the volunteers at Beach Creative CIC, family & friends, the self-funded project (supported by my personal income from my day job) the darkroom was ready to open to the public in 2015.

The Darkroom at Beach Creative is a darkroom for all! Emily offers a wide range of group or one-to-one for those looking to develop their skills or learn something new. The Darkroom is also available to hire for those with previous darkroom experience, meaning your love for analogue photography doesn't have to end once you graduate!
